The 2009 CYC Annual Meeting was held on Sunday afternoon, July 12 at the Augusta Country Club. Over 50 members (down from last year's count) were able to join together for another fine late afternoon-early evening gathering that included great company and most certainly some wonderful dining! Beginning with a 4 pm social hour in the dining room and the lobby, guests were able to socialize and many took the opportunity at that time to purchase bundles of our new CYC notecards featuring the Paul Plumer lighthouse print. They really are nice! Pick some up at our next Boat-in.
Dinner started promptly at 5 pm with salad, followed by wonderful chicken and fish dishes as well as the ever popular prime rib. Reviews of the main meal were top notch and the desert, a choice of carrot cake or out-of-this-world chocolate chocolate cake, was heavenly! Oh yes. It was!
Following the meal our business meeting included electing the new slate of CYC officers and executive committee for 2009-2011. You can check that out on the Officers page. One By-law change was voted in which set membership, "Based on the calendar year, January 1 to December 31." Also discussed were our Boat-ins, the Old Hallowell Days parade scheduled for Saturday, July 18, the Concert on the lake on July 25, and Bill Kieltyka spoke briefly about another upcoming Cobbossee Sailing Fleet and CYC sailing regatta. Bill Monagle of the Cobbossee Watershed District was unable to attend so he sent along remarks that were read by the Commodore on current CWD activities and issues. And following that, Bob Moore of the Friends of the Cobbossee Watershed, featured speaker for the evening, gave a very interesting presentation covering various issues involving the Friends including a discussion of the critically important Courtesy Boat Inspection program which is such a valuable tool in the fight against invasive plant species. This is, of course, one of the programs that your CYC dues helps to support on an annual basis! Thanks Bob!
All-in-all, the evening was a great success and hopefully all in attendance had a really fine time. If you were unable to make this one, how about you put it on next year's calendar, the CYC annual meeting, always the second Sunday in July!
