Concert in Horseshoe Cove 2008 Saturday, July 26 (Always the fourth Saturday of the month!)
Clark Marine. Generous sponsor of the CYC Concert in Horseshoe Cove. Thank you!
Here are some Georgian beauties a long way from home but ready for the concert. And swimming!
In the background the School Street Band prepares for a great concert!
Friends of the Cobbossee Watershed and the Otter II.
And it was a great day for selling ice cream!
Hmmmmmmm?
Leisa, Gretchen, and Chris.
Rob, Leisa, and John.
Did this float plane deliver these folks.....
.....all the way from California?
Your looking a bit too comfortable, guys! Are you really having a good time?
Ashton likes to steer the boat with Grammy Commodore!
They say the water was just great and all seemed to have a fine ole time!
WOW! Does this just not add to the ambiance? Thanks for coming, Randy!
And yet again, a great time was had by all!
What an afternoon! The weather could not have been more perfect. The band was awesome and the Commodore heard many comments from others to that effect as well. And man, were you folks generous! Our collection, and thank you gentlemen for helping with that task, was our largest ever with a total of $695.25. Thank you, thank you, thank you! That money will go directly into the CYC lake Preservation Fund!
Thanks again as well to our sponsor, Clark Marine of Manchester, and thanks as always to Dr. White for the use of her property, and John and Mary Beth Stanek for hauling that great dock all around the island so the band has a performance platform.
Yes! Another successful CYC summer event!
However, for future reference, an editorial comment.
It was announced at the beginning of the concert that CYC did not want to see the success of the event jeopardized by the throwing of water balloons. It has been documented that folks do get hurt given this type of activity (reference the old Kennebec River Whatever Race), and thus the Commodore asked the vast audience to refrain from such activity.
That request, unfortunately, was ignored by a small few. The issue that concerns the leadership of the CYC and its sponsor of the event, is .....this year a few, next year many? And another very important issue mentioned to the Commodore? Balloons that ended up in the lake. Are they now food for our loon population? Fish? Are they really good for our environment? Just a thought!
Let's keep this a really safe event for all, a fun family affair. Let's not run the risk of someone getting hurt thus causing this important event to be cancelled in the future. This is such a great opportunity to take the family, get outdoors on this great lake of ours, swim, and listen to some fine music!
These last two photographs come to us courtesy of our friends at the Friends of the Cobbossee Watershed. They were taken as the Otter II cruised aound Horseshoe Cove selling ice cream and introducing folks to the Friends organization.
Here are the Georgian gals again just awaiting that ice cream!
